{"id":25887,"date":"2022-07-25T10:24:02","date_gmt":"2022-07-25T10:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=25887"},"modified":"2022-07-25T10:24:04","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T10:24:04","slug":"droupadi-murmu-takes-oath-as-indias-first-tribal-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=25887","title":{"rendered":"Droupadi Murmu takes oath as India\u2019s first tribal president"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ALJAZEERA News:-   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Droupadi Murmu has been sworn in as India\u2019s president, making her the first person from one of the country\u2019s marginalised tribal communities to serve as the head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former school teacher and state governor was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/7\/22\/india-elects-tribal-candidate-droupadi-murmu-as-president\">elected<\/a> to the largely ceremonial position last week with 64 percent of the vote by members of India\u2019s parliament and state assemblies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Murmu, who is from the Santhal tribe and was born in eastern Odisha state, paid her respects before her inauguration on Monday at a memorial dedicated to India\u2019s independence icon Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI started my life journey from a small tribal village,\u201d Murmu, 64, said after taking the oath of office in parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrom the background I come from, it was like a dream for me to even get elementary education,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut despite many obstacles, my resolve remained strong and I became the first daughter from my village to go to college.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reporting from New Delhi, Al Jazeera\u2019s Pavni Mittal called the occasion \u201chistoric and highly symbolic\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSince her election last week, there have been many celebrations in largely tribal belts across the country,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is being seen as a presidency that could inspire millions of people, that is women and people from the tribal communities to dream big and enter mainstream Indian politics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India\u2019s prime minister wields executive power but the president can send back some parliamentary bills for reconsideration and also plays a guiding role in the process of forming governments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ALJAZEERA News:- Droupadi Murmu has been sworn in as India\u2019s president, making her the first person from one of the country\u2019s marginalised tribal communities to serve as the head of state.
