It cited increased government liquidity and external vulnerability risks in the wake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/9\/5\/death-toll-in-devastating-pakistan-floods-crosses-1300\">floods in August<\/a> that killed more than 1,600 people and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2022\/9\/7\/after-record-floods-now-pakistan-has-to-worry-about-economy\">caused billions of dollars in damage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe rating action by Moody\u2019s was carried out unilaterally without prior consultations and meetings with our teams from the Ministry of Finance and State Bank of Pakistan,\u201d Pakistan\u2019s finance ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concerns are rising about the health of Pakistan\u2019s economy as foreign exchange reserves run low, the local currency weakens and inflation stands at decades-high levels despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/8\/29\/pakistan-says-imf-approved-revival-of-massive-loan-programme\">resumption of an International Monetary Fund funding programme<\/a> in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Worries centre around its ability to pay for imports, such as energy and food, and meet sovereign debt obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data this week showed foreign exchange reserves at the central bank stood at $7.9bn.
