For her, it is freedom,\u201d Tavella said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">advertisement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Toulon Mayor Hubert Falco announced the news of her death on Twitter, writing that \u201cit is with immense sadness and emotion that I learnt tonight of the passing of the world\u2019s oldest person #SisterAndr\u00c3\u00a9.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sister was recognised as the oldest European, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/world\/story\/world-oldest-person-kane-tanaka-japan-119-1941743-2022-04-25\">before the death of Japan\u2019s Kane Tanaka aged 119<\/a> last year left her the longest-lived person on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lucile Randon, also known as Sister Andre, was born in 1904 in the French town of Ales. A born survivor, she lived through the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918 and two World Wars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She converted to Catholicism when she was 19 years old and became a nun eight years later.
