It\u2019s just not,\u201d General Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russia\u2019s original strategic objectives, including toppling the government in Kyiv, \u201care not achievable militarily\u201d, Milley told journalists after the conclusion of a virtual meeting of dozens of countries that are members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which is also known as the Ramstein group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers in Ukraine, which would make Kyiv\u2019s objective of recapturing all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2023\/5\/24\/ukraine-russia-trade-places-in-battle-for-bakhmut\">territory lost<\/a> to Moscow\u2019s forces unlikely \u201cin the near term\u201d, Milley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat means fighting is going to continue, it\u2019s going to be bloody, it\u2019s going to be hard.
