{"id":33368,"date":"2023-07-17T06:44:06","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T06:44:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=33368"},"modified":"2023-07-17T06:44:11","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T06:44:11","slug":"australian-sailor-and-his-dog-survive-two-months-at-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=33368","title":{"rendered":"Australian sailor and his dog survive two months at sea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BBC News:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>An Australian sailor who survived two months in the Pacific Ocean by eating raw fish and drinking rainwater is &#8220;stable and very well&#8221;, a doctor says.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sydney resident Tim Shaddock, 51, and his dog Bella left Mexico for French Polynesia in April, but their boat was damaged by a storm several weeks later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They were rescued by a trawler this week after a helicopter spotted them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The doctor aboard the tuna trawler <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9news.com.au\/national\/sydney-sailor-and-dog-survive-for-months-in-pacific-ocean\/7b2cbd22-308a-4f6b-97ad-7006262ef232\">told Australia&#8217;s 9News<\/a> that the man had &#8220;normal vital signs&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Shaddock embarked on his more than 6,000km-long (3,728-mile) voyage from Mexico&#8217;s city of La Paz &#8211; but soon became stranded after his vessel&#8217;s electronics were cut off by bad weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It left the sailor and his dog drifting in the vast and hostile North Pacific ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/1632\/idt2\/idt2\/a7a327f2-e4f0-400c-916c-de75fbfba9ba\/image\/816\" alt=\"Map\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When they were finally found off Mexico&#8217;s coast two months later, he was far leaner and sporting an overgrown beard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I have been through a very difficult ordeal at sea,&#8221; he said in a video obtained by 9News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;m just needing rest and good food because I have been alone at sea a long time. Otherwise I&#8217;m in very good health.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Shaddock said fishing gear had helped him to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also managed to avoid sunburn by sheltering under his boat&#8217;s canopy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soon after his rescue he was seen smiling and wearing a blood pressure monitor on his arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is also able to eat small meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tuna trawler is now heading back to Mexico where Mr Shaddock will undergo medical tests and receive more treatment if needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BBC News: An Australian sailor who survived two months in the Pacific Ocean by eating raw fish and drinking rainwater is &#8220;stable and very well&#8221;, a doctor says.
