{"id":34132,"date":"2023-08-15T05:02:38","date_gmt":"2023-08-15T05:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=34132"},"modified":"2023-08-15T08:56:38","modified_gmt":"2023-08-15T08:56:38","slug":"at-least-27-die-in-inferno-at-petrol-station-in-dagestan-southern-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=34132","title":{"rendered":"At least 33 die in inferno at petrol station in Dagestan southern Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BBC News:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At least 33 people have been killed in an explosion and fire at a petrol station in Dagestan in southern Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The blast erupted in the regional capital, Makhachkala, on the coast of the Caspian Sea, at 21:40 local time (18:40 GMT) on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pictures showed a large fire lighting up the night sky and a number of fire engines at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to local media, the fire began at a car service near the petrol station and injured dozens more people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his sincere condolences following the deadly blast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A state of emergency was introduced in the Kumtorkalinsky district in Dagestan, according to regional head Sergei Melikov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some 260 emergency workers have been deployed, while the most seriously injured have been evacuated to Moscow by air, the emergencies ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russia&#8217;s Interfax news agency quoted doctors as saying three children were among the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It added that the fire had spread over an area of 600 sq m (6,460 sq ft) and that there was a danger of further explosions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An unnamed witness <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/izvestia\/139860\">quoted<\/a> by Russian newspaper Izvestia said the fire had started on a car park opposite the petrol station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;After the explosion, everything fell on our heads. We couldn&#8217;t see anything any more,&#8221; the witness said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russia&#8217;s Investigative Committee said the fire had broken out during some car maintenance work and had been &#8220;followed by a bang&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A criminal case has been opened to establish the circumstances leading up to the incident, the Committee said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Republic of Dagestan is one of 83 constituent parts of the Russian Federation and is the southernmost part of the country.
