In March 2020, it had imposed strict travel restrictions in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For three years, China had some of the world&#8217;s strictest Covid curbs, with travel restrictions, numerous lockdowns and frequent testing requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its zero-Covid policy, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-64286126\">hit the economy hard<\/a>, was only lifted last December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tens of millions of international visitors came to China each year prior to the pandemic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BBC News: China is trialling visa-free travel for citizens from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia for a year, its foreign ministry said.
