There is growing outrage around the world after Israeli air strikes killed seven aid workers from the World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity, as the country faces increased scrutiny over its conduct in the war on Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WCK, one of two NGOs spearheading efforts to distribute aid brought by boat, said a \u201ctargeted Israeli strike\u201d on Monday killed Australian, British, Palestinian, Polish and US-Canadian staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israeli forces \u201cunintentionally\u201d killed the aid workers and promised an inquiry. The military said on Wednesday it had committed a \u201cgrave mistake\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t have happened,\u201d military chief Herzi Halevi said in a video message as he blamed the strike on a \u201cmisidentification \u2013 at night during a war in very complex conditions\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several of Israel\u2019s key allies have expressed outrage at the deaths and called for an independent investigation into the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he had spoken to Netanyahu and conveyed that his country was \u201coutraged\u201d by the \u201ccompletely unacceptable\u201d death of the Australian worker, Zomi Frankcom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
