{"id":38679,"date":"2024-04-13T13:29:09","date_gmt":"2024-04-13T13:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=38679"},"modified":"2024-04-13T13:29:12","modified_gmt":"2024-04-13T13:29:12","slug":"thailands-top-diplomat-visits-myanmar-border-amid-clashes-evacuations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=38679","title":{"rendered":"Thailand\u2019s top diplomat visits Myanmar border amid clashes, evacuations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Al Jazeera:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thailand\u2019s foreign minister has visited a border town near Myanmar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, after days of clashes in which the military regime\u2019s troops were forced into retreat by ethnic minority armed groups and hundreds of residents forced to flee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday, Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara visited the Thai town of Mae Sot that lies across from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/4\/12\/the-fall-of-myawaddy-myanmars-gateway-to-thailand-and-the-world\">Myanmar\u2019s Myawaddy<\/a>, which has been wrested out of the military\u2019s control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThailand wants to see peace and dialogue,\u201d Parnpree told reporters, adding that it was considering alternative trade routes in case of road closures caused by the fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thailand\u2019s Foreign Ministry said he would review preparations for a further influx of people from Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week Thailand said it was prepared to accept 100,000 people fleeing from Myanmar. But Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin warned on Thursday that the fighting should not spill into his country\u2019s airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fighting between Myanmar\u2019s military and ethnic minority armed groups has rocked Myawaddy this week, sending people rushing into Thailand, from where the boom of artillery shells and gunfire could be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/program\/inside-story\/2024\/4\/8\/is-myanmars-military-losing-ground\">conflict in Myanmar<\/a> set off by the military\u2019s 2021 coup regularly sends people fleeing across the two countries\u2019 shared 2,400km (1,490-mile) border.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Al Jazeera: Thailand\u2019s foreign minister has visited a border town near Myanmar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, after days of clashes in which the military regime\u2019s troops were forced into retreat by ethnic minority armed groups and hundreds of residents forced to flee.
