An Israeli bomb had just struck Beirut\u2019s southern suburbs in yet another near-nightly attack \u2013 this time hitting a building across the street from Lebanon\u2019s biggest public hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was treating a patient when the bomb went off. I fell over him from the shock of it,\u201d said Mohammad Fouani, an emergency room nurse at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/world\/live-news\/israel-iran-lebanon-gaza-war-10-21-24-intl-hnk#cm2jihxuu00053b6n5ayst5h5\">Rafik Hariri University Hospital<\/a>, recalling the aftermath of the October 21 attack. \u201cThe smoke was so thick; I could barely see my fellow colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSince the start of the war, every night has been difficult,\u201d Fouani told CNN. \u201cBut this was the worst by far. It was the most painful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Israel said the strike hit a Hezbollah target, though the area was not covered in Israeli military&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/world\/live-news\/israel-iran-lebanon-gaza-war-10-21-24-intl-hnk#cm2jlcyel00003b6n206rj0xb\">evacuation orders<\/a>&nbsp;for locations with alleged links to the Iran-backed group in the south of Beirut. At least four people, including a child, were killed and 24 injured in the residential building some 70 meters away from the hospital, Lebanon\u2019s health ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lebanon\u2019s health sector has been in the thick of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/04\/middleeast\/lebanon-israel-aerial-assault-intensity-intl\/index.html\">ferocious Israeli air assault<\/a>&nbsp;as Israel and Hezbollah trade fire in an ongoing war, with the country\u2019s south and Beirut\u2019s southern suburbs hardest hit.
