However, the statement said an investigation was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ten of the 26 killed died in a fire that followed the collision, according to the ministry. Videos from the scene from local media outlets showed the two vehicles in flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Minister of Transport invites, once again, all road users to be more vigilant in road traffic, by respecting traffic regulations,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accidents are common in the west African country due to dilapidated roads and reckless driving, killing over 1,000 people annually, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last month,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ivory-coast-road-accident-443d0de232b7cbde1a9aea7b4fd2aa78\">21 people were killed<\/a>&nbsp;and at least 10 others injured in a road accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this year, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ivory-coast-crash-killed-498a9b913fb0710156dfb68f2e7fa358\">tanker truck crashed into a bus<\/a>&nbsp;in northern Ivory Coast, leaving 13 people dead and injuring 44.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, authorities introduced a point-based driver\u2019s license, granting each driver a total of 12 points that can be gradually taken away depending on violations committed.
