{"id":45101,"date":"2025-02-15T14:58:32","date_gmt":"2025-02-15T14:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=45101"},"modified":"2025-02-15T14:58:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-15T14:58:36","slug":"more-than-25-arrested-after-un-convoy-attack-in-lebanon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=45101","title":{"rendered":"More than 25 arrested after UN convoy attack in Lebanon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al Jazeera:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 25 people were arrested following an attack on a convoy of United Nations peacekeepers that wounded two people including a senior commander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMore than 25 people have been arrested by Lebanese army intelligence\u201d, with another person detained by the security services, Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar told reporters after an emergency security meeting on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis does not mean these detainees carried out the attack \u2026 but the investigations will show who is responsible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Major-General Chok Bahadur Dhakal was on his way to leave the country for Nepal on Friday night after completing his mission when the UNIFIL convoy taking peacekeepers to the airport was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/2\/14\/iran-accuses-israel-of-disrupting-lebanon-flights-amid-rising-tensions\">attacked by protesters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lebanese army intervened but not before the UN peacekeepers sustained injuries. The second injured peacekeeper was not identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNIFIL said in a statement that attacks on peacekeepers were a \u201cflagrant\u201d violation of international law and \u201cmay amount to war crimes\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lebanon\u2019s President Joseph Aoun on Saturday condemned the attack, saying security forces will not tolerate anyone who tries to destabilise the country.
