{"id":45537,"date":"2025-03-16T05:36:34","date_gmt":"2025-03-16T05:36:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=45537"},"modified":"2025-03-16T05:40:06","modified_gmt":"2025-03-16T05:40:06","slug":"trump-administration-mulls-new-travel-ban-that-could-hit-43-nations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=45537","title":{"rendered":"Trump administration mulls new travel ban that could hit 43 nations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Al Jazeera:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United States President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/3\/14\/in-justice-department-speech-donald-trump-threatens-opponents-with-jail\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s administration is mulling a new travel ban that is expected to affect citizens from dozens of countries to varying degrees, The New York Times reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quoting anonymous officials, the report published on Friday said the US government\u2019s draft list featured 43 countries, divided into three categories of travel restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first group of 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba and North Korea, would be set for a full visa suspension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second group, five countries \u2013 Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar and South Sudan \u2013 would face partial suspensions that would affect tourist and student visas as well as other immigrant visas, with some exceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the third group, a total of 26 countries that includes Belarus, Pakistan and Turkmenistan would be considered for a partial suspension of US visa issuance if their governments \u201cdo not make efforts to address deficiencies within 60 days\u201d, the draft memo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A US official speaking on condition of anonymity told the Reuters news agency there could be changes to the list and it was yet to be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2025\/3\/14\/consumer-sentiment-plunges-as-us-frightened-of-sharply-higher-prices\">approved<\/a>&nbsp;by the administration, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump issued an executive order on January 20 requiring intensified security vetting of any foreigners seeking admission to the US to detect national security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/1\/24\/trump-decree-paves-way-for-muslim-ban-targeting-pro-palestine-students\">directed<\/a>&nbsp;several cabinet members to submit by March 21 a list of countries from which travel should be partly or fully suspended because their \u201cvetting and screening information is so deficient\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US president\u2019s directive is part of an immigration crackdown he launched at the start of his second term.
