{"id":46819,"date":"2025-05-06T08:15:40","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T08:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=46819"},"modified":"2025-05-06T08:15:46","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T08:15:46","slug":"un-security-council-urges-india-pakistan-talks-on-kashmir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=46819","title":{"rendered":"UN Security Council urges India-Pakistan talks on Kashmir"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Reuters:     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ISLAMABAD\/NEW DELHI, May 6  &#8211; The United Nations Security Council has urged India and Pakistan to ease tension and avoid military conflict, Pakistan said on Tuesday, as hostilities between the nuclear-armed rivals surge after a deadly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/india\/how-militants-attacked-tourists-kashmirs-pahalgam-indias-response-2025-04-23\/\">attack<\/a>\u00a0on tourists in disputed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/india\/kashmir-disputed-region-focus-after-deadly-militant-attack-2025-04-23\/\">Kashmir<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Council members were briefed on the situation in the region and told of intelligence indicating an &#8220;imminent threat&#8221; of action by India, the South Asian nation&#8217;s foreign ministry said, referring to the council&#8217;s meeting on Monday in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They called for dialogue and diplomacy to diffuse tension and avoid military confrontation &#8230; and to peacefully resolve issues,&#8221; the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India&#8217;s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the meeting, which had been sought by Islamabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two sides have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/aerospace-defense\/with-militaries-upgraded-risks-multiply-any-potential-india-pakistan-conflict-2025-05-05\/\">shored up defences<\/a>&nbsp;as ties plummeted after the April 22 attack that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/india\/militants-indian-kashmir-segregate-men-women-children-before-opening-fire-2025-04-23\/\">targeted Hindu tourists<\/a>, killing 26. India accused Pakistan of involvement, saying two of the three suspected attackers were Pakistani nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Islamabad has denied the accusation but says it is fully prepared to defend itself in case of attack, prompting world powers to call for a calming of tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan has held two missile tests in three days and India unveiled plans for civil defence drills in several states on Tuesday, from sounding air raid sirens to evacuation plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan is currently a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
