{"id":47010,"date":"2025-05-13T11:38:30","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T11:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=47010"},"modified":"2025-05-13T11:38:36","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T11:38:36","slug":"these-five-measures-remain-despite-the-india-pakistan-ceasefire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=47010","title":{"rendered":"These five measures remain, despite the India-Pakistan ceasefire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BBC:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire, questions remain over what lies ahead for the two South Asian neighbours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early on 7 May,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cj6868pdpw4o\">India launched air strikes<\/a>&nbsp;into Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in response to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cy9vyzzyjzlo\">a deadly militant attack<\/a>&nbsp;on tourists in India-administered Kashmir (Islamabad has denied involvement in the attack).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What followed were four days of intense shelling and aerial incursions between the two nuclear-armed countries, until the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1921174163848401313\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surprise ceasefire<\/a>&nbsp;announcement on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But &#8211; even accounting for the usually tense relationship between India and Pakistan &#8211; things are nowhere close to normal yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fragile ceasefire, now in its fourth day, is still holding as life slowly begins to return to normal in towns along the de facto border between India and Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, days before launching the military operation, India had announced a flurry of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/ce8g2njm2d2o\">diplomatic measures<\/a>&nbsp;against Pakistan, including suspending a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cd7vjyezypqo\">key water-sharing treaty<\/a>, halting most visas and stopping all trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, Islamabad announced its own&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cwy76y52l9eo\">set of tit-for-tat actions<\/a>, including the suspension of visas for Indians, a trade ban and the closure of its airspace to Indian flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of these punitive measures have been reversed by both countries so far.
