{"id":48370,"date":"2025-07-11T06:31:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T06:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=48370"},"modified":"2025-07-11T06:43:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T06:43:34","slug":"china-offers-to-help-resolve-thailand-cambodia-border-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=48370","title":{"rendered":"China offers to help resolve Thailand, Cambodia border dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Reuters)    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEIJING, July 11 &#8211; China urged Cambodia and Thailand to resolve their border dispute through friendly dialogue, offering to play a constructive role by upholding an &#8220;objective and fair&#8221; position, its foreign ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged peaceful coexistence between the neighbours during a meeting on Thursday with Thai counterpart Maris Sangiampongsa on the sidelines of an ASEAN summit in Malaysia, the ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;China is willing to uphold an objective and fair position and play a constructive role for the harmonious coexistence between Thailand and Cambodia,&#8221; Wang said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tension has risen between the Southeast Asian neighbours since the end of May, after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a brief exchange of gunfire at a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/border-tensions-whats-behind-row-between-thailand-cambodia-2025-06-06\/\">disputed area<\/a>&nbsp;on their 820-km (510-mile) border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last month Cambodia asked the International Court of Justice to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/cambodia-asks-world-court-settle-border-disputes-with-thailand-2025-06-15\/\">resolve<\/a>&nbsp;the disputes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wang reiterated China&#8217;s impartiality on the border issue in a meeting with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn the same day, the ministry said in a separate summary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasised security measures to protect Chinese and Cambodians, calling for tougher action to &#8220;completely eradicate the tumour&#8221; of cross-border crimes such as online gambling, wire fraud, counterfeiting and smuggling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Referring to U.S. tariffs, he added that China believed Southeast Asia had the ability to cope with the &#8220;complex situation&#8221; and safeguard common interests as well as those of individual nations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Reuters) BEIJING, July 11 &#8211; China urged Cambodia and Thailand to resolve their border dispute through friendly dialogue, offering to play a constructive role by upholding an &#8220;objective and fair&#8221; position, its foreign ministry said.
