{"id":48446,"date":"2025-07-14T14:28:53","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T14:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=48446"},"modified":"2025-07-14T14:30:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T14:30:34","slug":"indonesia-scales-down-search-for-17-missing-after-bali-ferry-disaster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=48446","title":{"rendered":"Indonesia scales down search for 17 missing after Bali ferry disaster"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>(Reuters)   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JAKARTA, July 14  &#8211; Indonesian rescuers on Monday scaled down a search for 17 people still missing after a ferry sank near the island of Bali earlier this month, an official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ferry, KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, was carrying 65 people when it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/two-dead-43-missing-after-ferry-sinks-near-bali-ap-reports-2025-07-03\/\">sank almost 30 minutes after<\/a>&nbsp;leaving East Java province&#8217;s Banyuwangi port to Bali on July 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of Monday afternoon, 18 people were confirmed dead with 30 survivors, Ribut Eko Suyatno, an official at Indonesia&#8217;s search and rescue agency, told Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All passengers were Indonesian except for one Malaysian who was among the fatalities, local media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The national-level search, which lasted for around two weeks and involved around 500 people, including rescuers, police, and military personnel, was officially called off on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A provincial-level team will continue to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/indonesia-resumes-search-30-missing-ferry-passengers-2025-07-04\/\">search for the missing<\/a>&nbsp;people for the next seven days, Suyatno said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;After today, the East Java search agency will search for the missing. Around 100 personnel will be involved,&#8221; Suyatno said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rescuers over the weekend located the wreck of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya which was also carrying 22 vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials are now preparing to recover the wreck, Suyatno added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the preliminary reports by Indonesia&#8217;s Transportation Safety Committee, the ferry sank because seawater entered the engine room after its door opened, local media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ferry began tilting and then sinking, the committee said, adding that it was still investigating the main cause of the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Reuters) JAKARTA, July 14 &#8211; Indonesian rescuers on Monday scaled down a search for 17 people still missing after a ferry sank near the island of Bali earlier this month, an official said.
