{"id":53253,"date":"2025-12-12T16:30:59","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T16:30:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=53253"},"modified":"2025-12-12T16:31:02","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T16:31:02","slug":"venezuelan-opposition-leader-says-she-aims-for-a-peaceful-transition-after-maduro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=53253","title":{"rendered":"Venezuelan opposition leader says she aims for a peaceful transition after Maduro"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CNN:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Venezuelan opposition leader Mar\u00eda Corina Machado said Friday that she is focused on an orderly transition of power in her country should\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/12\/11\/americas\/us-sanctions-maduro-nephews-intl-latam\">President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/a>\u00a0leave power and that she is confident Venezuela\u2019s police and armed forces would not oppose such a transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking as the US government ramps up pressure on Venezuela\u2019s authoritarian leader,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/12\/11\/americas\/venezuela-machado-us-support-intl\">Machado<\/a>&nbsp;said the crisis in her home country is a key national security consideration for the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt has become very clear that the Venezuelan conflict is absolutely a priority in matters of national security for the United States and in matters of hemispheric security,\u201d Machado told reporters in Oslo, Norway, where she collected her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/12\/10\/europe\/nobel-prize-ceremony-machado-intl\">Nobel Peace Prize<\/a>&nbsp;this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US\u202fadministration has been working on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/12\/09\/politics\/trump-plans-after-maduro\">day-after plans<\/a>&nbsp;in the event Maduro is ousted, according to senior administration officials. CNN has previously reported that there have been informal conversations\u202finside\u202fthe US administration regarding Machado and fellow opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez leading a post-Maduro Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMaduro will leave power, whether it is negotiated or not negotiated,\u201d Machado said Friday. \u201cWe are fundamentally focused on how we can ensure that it is an orderly, peaceful transition, where the results of the country\u2019s reconstruction are felt as soon as possible by Venezuelans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am confident today that the vast majority of the Venezuelan armed forces and police, as soon as the transition begins, will obey orders, guidelines and instructions from superiors who will be appointed by the civil authority duly elected by Venezuelans,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked what role she might play in the US administration\u2019s plans, Machado told CNN: \u201cNot only the American government, I think many other governments around the world are preparing for a democratic transition in Venezuela for several reasons.
