Fourteen countries, including Britain, Canada, Denmark and France, have\u00a0condemned Israel\u2019s approval<\/a>\u00a0of 19 new \u2060settlements in the occupied West Bank, saying \u200bthe move was illegal and jeopardised the Gaza ceasefire and \u201clong-term peace and security across the region\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The countries said Israel\u2019s actions \u201cviolate international law\u201d and risked undermining the fragile truce in Gaza as mediators work to implement the second phase of the ceasefire in a war that has seen Israeli forces kill almost 71,000 Palestinians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe, States of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and the United Kingdom condemn the approval by the Israeli security cabinet of 19 new settlements<\/a> in the occupied West Bank,\u201d according to a joint statement.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe recall our clear opposition to any form of annexation and to the expansion of settlement policies,\u201d the countries said, adding: \u201cWe call on Israel to reverse this decision, as well as the expansion of settlements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are resolute in our support of Palestinians\u2019 right of self-determination.
