{"id":54080,"date":"2026-01-05T10:09:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T10:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=54080"},"modified":"2026-01-05T10:09:36","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T10:09:36","slug":"venezuelas-interim-president-offers-us-cooperation-after-trump-says-further-strike-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=54080","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela&#8217;s interim president offers US cooperation after Trump says further strike possible"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Reuters)    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jan 5 &#8211; Venezuela&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/who-is-tsarina-delcy-rodriguez-acting-president-venezuela-2026-01-04\/\">acting president<\/a>\u00a0offered on Sunday to collaborate with the United States on an agenda focused on &#8220;shared development&#8221;, striking a conciliatory tone for the first time since U.S. forces captured the oil-rich nation&#8217;s president, Nicolas Maduro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement posted on social media, Acting President&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/who-is-delcy-rodriguez-vice-president-who-could-replace-venezuelas-maduro-2026-01-03\/\">Delcy Rodriguez<\/a>&nbsp;said her government was prioritizing a move towards respectful relations with the United States, having earlier criticized the raid on Saturday as an illegal grab for the country&#8217;s national resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We invite the US government to collaborate with us on an agenda of cooperation oriented towards shared development within the framework of international law to strengthen lasting community coexistence,&#8221; Rodriguez said. &#8220;President Donald Trump, our peoples and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rodriguez, who also serves as oil minister, has long been considered the most pragmatic member of Maduro&#8217;s inner circle and Trump had said she was willing to work with the U.S..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Publicly, however, she and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/maduro-is-out-its-unclear-who-is-running-venezuela-2026-01-04\/\">other officials<\/a>&nbsp;had called the detentions of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores a kidnapping and said Maduro remains the nation&#8217;s legitimate leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump told reporters on Sunday that he could order another strike if&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/trump-bets-intimidation-force-venezuelan-leaders-into-line-2026-01-04\/\">Venezuela does not cooperate<\/a>&nbsp;with U.S. efforts to open up its oil industry and stop drug trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump also threatened military action in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/trump-says-new-military-operation-focused-colombia-sounds-good-him-2026-01-05\/\">Colombia<\/a>&nbsp;and Mexico and said Cuba&#8217;s communist regime &#8220;looks like it&#8217;s ready to fall&#8221; on its own.
