{"id":55508,"date":"2026-03-17T11:52:52","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T11:52:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=55508"},"modified":"2026-03-17T11:52:58","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T11:52:58","slug":"iran-war-may-push-45-million-people-into-acute-hunger-by-june-wfp-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=55508","title":{"rendered":"Iran war may push 45 million people into acute hunger by June, WFP says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> (Reuters)   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GENEVA, March 17 &#8211; Tens of millions more people will face acute hunger \u200bif the Iran war continues through to \u200cJune, according to analysis from the World Food Programme released on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran that began on \u200bFebruary 26 have<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/iran-war-chokes-aid-corridors-obstructing-global-relief-efforts-2026-03-06\/\">&nbsp;choked up&nbsp;<\/a>key humanitarian aid \u200broutes, delaying life-saving shipments to some of the \u2060world&#8217;s worst crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An extra 45 million are projected \u200bto be pushed into acute hunger because of \u200brises in food, oil and shipping costs, pushing the global tally above its current record level of 319 million, Deputy \u200bExecutive Director of the World Food Programme Carl \u200bSkau told reporters in Geneva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This would take global hunger levels \u200cto \u2060an all-time record and it&#8217;s a terrible, terrible prospect,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Already, before this war, we were in a perfect storm where hunger has never been \u200bas severe \u200bas now, \u2060in terms of numbers and how deep that hunger is,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skau said \u200bits shipping costs are up 18% since \u200bthe \u2060U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran began on February 28 and that some have had to be rerouted.
