KABUL, March 30 – Heavy rain that triggered severe flooding and caused buildings to collapse has killed 22 \u200bpeople and injured 32 in Afghanistan over the \u200clast two days, the country’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Monday, as it warned of continued risk due to bad weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Most \u200bof the deaths were reported from the central \u200band eastern provinces of the war-shattered South Asian \u2060nation, including Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Daykundi and Logar, where torrential \u200brain triggered flash floods and caused houses to collapse in rural \u200band mountainous regions, the authority said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conditions remained “unstable” in parts of the country on Monday, with continued risk of further rain and flooding \u200bin some areas, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Twenty-two people were killed, 32 \u200binjured and 241 houses damaged in flooding and other weather-related incidents across \u200c13 \u2060provinces over the past two days,” an NDMA official, who did not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the media, told Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afghanistan \u200bis prone to \u200bnatural disasters \u2060and the United Nations lists it among the countries most vulnerable to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With international aid, \u200bwhich formed the backbone of the government’s finances, \u200bslashed \u2060since the Taliban seized power in 2021, the country has been struggling to cope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
