The May contract expires \u200bon Tuesday and the more active June contract was at $105.76.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures for May fell 98 cents, or 0.95%, \u200bto $101.90 a barrel after hitting their highest point since March 9 in early trading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analysts said the fall \u2060in prices is a temporary reaction to the idea of the war&#8217;s end, but any meaningful change in prices would not materialise until \u200bflows through the Strait of Hormuz are completely reinstated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump told aides he is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/trump-tells-aides-he-is-willing-end-iran-war-without-reopening-hormuz-wsj-2026-03-31\/\">willing to end<\/a>&nbsp;the military campaign against Iran even if the \u200bStrait of Hormuz remains largely closed and leave its reopening for a later date, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing administration officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/trump-calls-irans-current-leaders-very-reasonable-pakistan-prepares-host-talks-2026-03-30\/\">warned<\/a>&nbsp;that the U.S. would &#8220;obliterate&#8221; Iran&#8217;s energy plants and oil wells if Tehran did not reopen the waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran&#8217;s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which typically carries \u200babout a fifth of global oil supply and large numbers of liquefied natural gas tankers, has pushed Brent futures up 59% so far \u200bin March, their highest monthly gain ever, while WTI is up 58% this month, the most since May 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;While diplomatic signals remain mixed, the ground reality suggests \u200cthat uncertainty \u2060will persist,&#8221; said Sugandha Sachdeva, founder of SS WealthStreet, a New Delhi-based research firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Even in the event of de-escalation, restoring damaged infrastructure will take time, keeping supply tight.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Highlighting the threat to seaborne energy supplies from the war between Iran and the U.S. and Israel, Kuwait Petroleum Corp on Tuesday said its fully loaded crude oil tanker Al Salmi, capable of carrying up to 2 million barrels, was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/giant-oil-tanker-off-dubai-hit-by-iranian-strike-trump-threatens-obliterate-iran-2026-03-31\/\">struck<\/a>&nbsp;by an alleged Iranian attack at a \u200bDubai port.
