{"id":56086,"date":"2026-04-01T13:43:42","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T13:43:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=56086"},"modified":"2026-04-01T13:47:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T13:47:59","slug":"russia-says-its-troops-have-taken-full-control-of-luhansk-region-in-eastern-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=56086","title":{"rendered":"Russia says its troops have taken full control of Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Reuters)    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MOSCOW, April 1  &#8211; The Russian Defence Ministry said on Wednesday that its forces had \u200btaken full control of the Luhansk region in eastern \u200cUkraine, suggesting they had wrested control of a small sliver of land which had remained beyond their reach since 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reuters could not independently \u200bverify the battlefield report and a Ukrainian military spokesperson \u200bsaid there had been no battlefield changes in the \u2060area in the last six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 99% of \u200bLuhansk, one of four Ukrainian regions Russia claimed as its own \u200bin 2022 &#8211; something Kyiv and most Western countries have rejected as an illegal land grab &#8211; has long been under Russian control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Units of the \u2018West\u2019 \u200bmilitary grouping have completed the liberation of the Luhansk People&#8217;s \u200bRepublic,&#8221; the Defence Ministry said in a statement, using Moscow&#8217;s preferred name \u200cfor \u2060the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luhansk is one of two regions &#8211; along with Donetsk &#8211; which make up the wider industrialised Donbas area. The Kremlin on Wednesday reiterated its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/kremlin-asked-about-its-donbas-demands-says-ukraine-should-have-pulled-out-2026-04-01\/\">demand that Ukrainian forces withdraw<\/a>&nbsp;from the \u200bpart of Donetsk \u200bwhich Moscow does \u2060not control to end what it called the &#8220;hot phase&#8221; of the war, a demand Kyiv \u200bhas repeatedly dismissed as absurd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Russia&#8217;s Defence Ministry said \u200bits \u2060forces had also taken control of the village of Verkhnya Pysarivka in Ukraine&#8217;s Kharkiv region and of Boikove in the Zaporizhzhia \u2060region \u200bin southeastern Ukraine.
