{"id":58092,"date":"2026-05-30T07:10:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T07:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=58092"},"modified":"2026-05-30T07:10:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T07:10:48","slug":"israel-russia-among-new-additions-on-un-sexual-violence-blacklist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=58092","title":{"rendered":"Israel, Russia among new additions on UN sexual violence \u2018blacklist\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al Jazeera:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United Nations has confirmed it placed Israel on a blacklist of countries suspected of committing sexual violence against civilians, and pushed back on accusations made by Israel regarding its inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list, part of a \u201cconflict-related sexual violence\u201d report released on Friday, prompted Israel\u2019s foreign ministry to say it would&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/5\/28\/un-adds-israel-to-blacklist-for-sexual-violence-in-war-zones\">sever all ties<\/a>&nbsp;with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last August, the UN cited \u201ccredible information\u201d regarding sexual violence committed by Israeli security forces against Palestinian detainees in prisons and other detention centres, and said UN inspectors had been denied access to the facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe invited the representative of the UN to come to Israel to check those ridiculous allegations. They chose not to come,\u201d Israel\u2019s UN Ambassador Danny Danon posted on X on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI never received an iota of information on measures taken by the government of Israel on implementation of the preventive measures,\u201d Pramila Patten, the UN official who authored the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/sites\/default\/files\/atoms\/files\/secretary-general-report-on-sexual-violence-in-conflict.pdf\">report<\/a>, told reporters on Friday at a briefing at the UN\u2019s New York headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have made several requests in writing, and sometimes during meetings, for details about initial steps, including the issuance of orders of command information on access and information on accountability measures, but I did not get any response on the substantive aspect of the preventive measures,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patten did confirm that there had been an invitation from Israel, but referred also to disagreements about the scope of the visit and related issues of access and cooperation, and said it ultimately had to be suspended due to Israel\u2019s war on Gaza.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Al Jazeera: The United Nations has confirmed it placed Israel on a blacklist of countries suspected of committing sexual violence against civilians, and pushed back on accusations made by Israel regarding its inclusion.
