SAO PAULO, July 15 – Rio de Janeiro prosecutors have charged 22 \u200bpeople with operating a sophisticated \u200cmoney-laundering network for Brazilian criminal groups, authorities said on Wednesday, as police \u200bcarried out raids across \u200bthe states of Rio de Janeiro \u2060and Sao Paulo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Organized \u200bCrime Special Action Group (GAECO) said the \u200bnetwork had moved millions of reais through recently established shell companies, using techniques \u200bsuch as structured deposits \u200band the recruitment of accountants to disguise \u200cthe \u2060origin of illicit funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local media, including CNN Brasil and news portal G1, reported that the group \u200bwas suspected \u200bof \u2060laundering money for three different criminal gangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked about \u200bthe reports, the Public \u200bProsecutor’s \u2060Office said the probe was continuing under seal with the aim \u2060of \u200bidentifying other suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
