{"id":59661,"date":"2026-07-20T15:31:26","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T15:31:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=59661"},"modified":"2026-07-20T15:33:06","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T15:33:06","slug":"oil-transfer-activity-in-gulf-of-oman-slows-following-ship-attacks-data-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gyalchisarshog.com\/?p=59661","title":{"rendered":"Oil transfer activity in Gulf of Oman slows following ship attacks, data shows"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Reuters)    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LONDON, July 20 &#8211; Oil transfers between \u200btankers in waters outside the Strait of Hormuz have slowed following a wave of recent attacks on vessels \u200cby Iranian forces, according to satellite analysis and sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the start of the Iran war in late February, ship-to-ship (STS) transfers between tankers have helped enable oil to leave the Gulf despite the threats to commercial vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the practice, tankers using one of two makeshift routes close \u200bto either the Iranian or Omani coast have shuttled cargoes through the waterway with clearance from either Washington or Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ships \u200bwaiting in open waters outside the strait can then load the oil without having to make their \u2060own complex transit arrangements or get approval from their insurers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June, Reuters reported that the U.S. military had helped vessels through \u200bas part of an operation involving&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/us-is-using-an-iranian-smuggling-tactic-sneak-oil-out-gulf-2026-06-16\/\">scores of secretive ship-to-ship oil transfers<\/a>&nbsp;to keep Gulf energy exports flowing, using aerial and water drones as \u200bwell as helicopters to guide tankers.
