A linear rain band \u2014 or a narrow band of intense precipitation and thunderstorms \u2014 could also develop, possibly triggering flooding, the \u200bweather agency \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The large storm \u2060was also enveloping much of the southernmost main island of Kyushu with \u200bstrong winds, including Kumamoto prefecture, still reeling \u200bfrom \u2060last week&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/two-homes-different-traumas-japan-quake-leaves-scars-seen-unseen-2026-07-30\/\">magnitude 7.1 earthquake<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some 6,700 Kumamoto residents remain in evacuation centres after many houses collapsed.
