The Mumbai police’s crime branch arrested five men for allegedly cheating 200 to 300 victims with false promises of providing overseas employment and issuing fake visas. Various materials were also confiscated by the police during a raid on one of their offices in Mumbai.
The confiscated material included 63 passports, counterfeit visas for Azerbaijan, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, multiple SIM cards, printers, monitors, mobile phones, routers, and forged rubber stamps bearing the bogus company’s name under which they operated.
The arrested men were identified as Ramkripal Kushwaha (45) from Bhiwandi, Rohit Sinha (33) from Mumbai, Ashish Mahto (30) from Delhi, Amitosh Gupta (40) from Lucknow, and Rahul Chaudhry (22) from Gaya, Bihar. Apart from the five accused, two more who are already in jail will be taken into custody again.
They were booked on charges of criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, forgery under the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Indian Immigration and Passport Act. Authorities said more people might be involved in the case.
