Woman and child among three killed on Irish roads

A woman in her 40s and a child have been killed in a car crash in County Mayo.

The collision involved a car and a lorry on the N26 in Lismoran, Foxford.

The woman who died was the driver of the car, Gardaí (Irish police) said.

The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with injuries that are understood to be non-life threatening.

The N26 Foxford-to-Swinford road has been closed and local diversions are in place.

A technical examination is being conducted by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Meanwhile, a man in his 50s has died in a car crash in Castlepollard, County Westmeath.

The single-vehicle crash happened on the R395 at Teevrevagh, Castlepollard.

The road has been closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are at the scene and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
