Project Dantak and State Trading Corporation of Bhutan Limited Sign MoU for Fuel Supply

Thimphu, Bhutan— 30th December 2024: In a continued spirit of collaboration, Project Dantak of the Border Roads Organization (BRO), India and the State Trading Corporation of Bhutan Limited (STCBL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the supply of petrol and diesel to Project Dantak’s fleet of vehicles, engineering equipment including earthmoving plants and plants operating in Bhutan. This marks another milestone in their ongoing partnership, which has been sustained over the last four years.

The MoU ensures uninterrupted fuel supply to all sub-units of Project Dantak, enabling seamless execution of its projects across Bhutan. Last year, the agreement’s value exceeded 97 million Ngultrum (Nu), underscoring the scale and significance of the collaboration. The deal for the current year is expected to be similarly substantial, reflecting the shared commitment of both organizations to Bhutan’s infrastructural growth and development.

Since its establishment in 1961, Project Dantak has been a cornerstone in Bhutan’s infrastructure development. Its pioneering efforts have transformed the nation’s road network, connecting remote regions, facilitating trade, and enhancing accessibility for communities. Over the decades, the project has been instrumental in constructing and maintaining vital highways, bridges, and other key infrastructure, significantly contributing to Bhutan’s socio-economic progress.

In recent years, Project Dantak has deepened its engagement with local organizations, contractors, and vendors, providing a notable boost to the local economy. Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Rohit Gupta, Chief Engineer, Project Dantak remarked, “This MoU with STCBL reaffirms our commitment to our mottoConnecting People- Connecting Countries. He stated that by collaborating and sourcing materials and services locally, the project not only ensures efficiency in operations but also supports Bhutanese enterprises and fosters economic growth within the country.

The State Trading Corporation of Bhutan also expressed its dedication to supporting Project Dantak’s objectives. “This partnership aligns with our goal of contributing to national development by supporting and facilitating critical infrastructure projects,” stated Mr Chencho, officiating CEO of STCBL.
