Their Majesties King and Queen of Thailand will pay a State Visit to Bhutan

Royal World Thailand:

Their Majesties King Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida of Thailand will pay a State Visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan, following the invitation of Their Majesties King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck on 25-28 April 2025. This will be embarked as the first-ever State Visit of the reign.

This landmark event promises to strengthen ties between the two Kingdoms and foster greater cultural and economic exchange. Preparations were the focus of a high-level meeting in March between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Bhutanese Ambassador to Thailand at Government House in Bangkok.

For the drafted agenda for welcoming The King and Queen upon their arrival at Paro International Airport, the royal couple will be received in an elaborate Chipdrel ceremony and presented a Guard of Honour at the courtyard of Tashichhodzong Fortress in Thimphu. Then the official audience will be held in the Golden Throne Room in the fortress.

The King and Queen of Bhutan will host luncheon at Lingkana Palace, and will lead The King and Queen of Thailand to greet King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, The Queen Mothers, and members of the Bhutanese Royal Family.

King Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida will be guided tours to various significant and important landmarks in the capital, including Gelephu The Mindfulness City. Further details will be officially announced in due course.

The King and Queen will mark their first State Visit since he ascended the throne in 2016. This royal visit represents a significant milestone in Thai-Bhutanese relations. It signifies not just a ceremonial exchange but a deepening of ties across multiple sectors, promising enhanced collaboration and mutual benefit.

Though The King spent most of his time in Germany at the beginning of his reign until he stopped having a private retreat abroad in 2020, he made his first official foreign visit in 2023 when he and The Queen attended the Coronation of King Charles III of the United Kingdom in London.
